| The Doorbell Has Been Drinking: Week II |
[Dec. 4th, 2009|09:25 am] |
It's that holiday time of the year - but as we all know, most holiday songs are total shit.
TDHBD provides an alternative to the standard holiday fare by offering some non-traditional and original songs to review and add to your holiday library. Some of these tracks are rare, some are personal favorites, and still others ... ummm ... unique. To conserve bandwidth, I'll be rotating these out from time to time, if you've missed one, drop me a line. Here are some of my personal favorites from last year:

| Investigating Sesame Street's role in the financial collapse |
[Oct. 21st, 2009|07:40 am] |
Sesame Street got the jump on the "good vampire" trend — heck, maybe they started it — prepping a generation for the Twilight novels by selling the idea that the Street's numerically obsessed Transylvanian vampire, The Count ("one batty-batty, two batty-batty"), though slightly odd, was basically loveable. But The Count and his friends also have to answer for helping precipitate last year's financial earthquake, the epicentre of which occurred in New York about one year ago today. Yes, those Sesame creatures promoted a dangerous misapprehension drummed into future Wall Street wide boys sucking their thumbs and staring into their TV sets

| Rhyming slang for cash machine |
[Aug. 25th, 2009|07:07 am] |
Ananova: Rhyming slang for cash machine A cash machine operator has introduced Cockney rhyming slang to a number of its ATMs. People wanting cash out of Bank Machine's ATMs in East London can choose to have their instruction given to them in rhyming slang, reports BBC online. Customers will be asked to enter their Huckleberry Finn, rather than their Pin, and will have to select how much sausage and mash or cash they want. The company plan to trial the rhyming slang in five cash machines for three months. Ron Delnevo, managing director of Bank Machine, said: "We wanted to introduce something fun and of local interest to our London machines. "Whilst we expect some residents will visit the machine to just have a look, most will be genuinely pleased as this is the first time a financial services provider will have recognised the Cockney language in such a manner."
